For online support from the CCCS try their debt remedy service, you don’t have to give your name and the service is totally free. 

If you’re worried about your finances, CCCS Debt Remedy can help to provide a solution – whatever your situation. Simply answer the questions as they appear and in about 20 minutes or so, you’ll have a CCCS Debt Remedy tailored to your personal circumstances.

CCCS Debt Remedy is provided by the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - the UK’s largest debt charity - in association with MSN Money. All advice and recommendations are backed by 15 years of experience and knowledge gained by CCCS counsellors.

 Citizens Advice

The Citizens Advice service helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.

Every Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity reliant on trained volunteers and funds to provide these vital services for local communities.

Money Advice Scotland

Money Advice Scotland (MAS) was set up in 1989 courtesy of a grant from the Scottish Consumer Council as the umbrella organisation to represent individuals and agencies involved in all areas of money advice (debt advice).

While they do not provide an advice service direct to the public themselves, they do keep up to date details of advice agencies throughout Scotland who provide a free, independent, impartial and confidential money advice service.

Shelter

Shelter has over 200 specialist housing advisers. They can give you advice, information and help with legal and practical issues. All of Shelter's services are free, professional and independent.

Shelter has more than 30 years' experience in dealing with housing problems. They may be able to help if you are:

  • facing eviction
  • struggling with arrears
  • homeless or about to lose your home
  • living in bad conditions
  • having problems with your landlord or mortgage lender
  • having trouble dealing with the council.

Housing problems can be complicated and stressful. But getting advice could help you find a solution. If another organisation would be better able to help you, we can put you in touch with them.

Don't wait until things get to crisis point. It's never too late to get advice, but the earlier you do so, the better your chances are.

Samaritans
 
Samaritans provides confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide.

Whatever you're going through, whether it's big or small, don't bottle it up. They're are there for you if you're worried about something, feel upset or confused, or just want to talk to someone.

They offer their service by telephone, email, letter and face to face in most of their branches.

Samaritans is available to anyone in the UK and Ireland. If you live outside of the UK and Ireland, visit www.befrienders.org to find your nearest helpline.

Payplan 

Supported by debt advice agencies Citizens Advice Bureau, Institute of Money Advisers and National Debtline, Payplan offers free debt advice and management plans to anyone experiencing financial difficulties.
 
Payplan promise that they will only ever suggest a debt solution if they genuinely believe it will benefit you.

Credit Action: Better Thinking About Money

Credit Action is a national money education charity (registered Charity in England & Wales No. 1106941) established in 1994, that is committed to helping people manage their money better. Credit Action aims to help people stay in control, rather than let money control them and disrupt their lives through over indebtedness or poverty.

Credit Action try and help as many people as possible avoid the pain of debt. However they recognise many contacting them will be in trouble already, so they have very close links with the major debt counselling charity the Consumer Credit Counselling Service


The Insolvency Service

The Insolvency Service enquiry lines provide initial information on insolvency and redundancy legislation and procedures, including details of the work of the official receivers and redundancy payments offices. You may be able to find the answer you require on line or find enough information to make any subsequent enquiry more specific. The Insolvency Enquiry line (IEL) Reference Guide contains general information covering most topics commonly encountered by the IEL.

Now Let's Talk About Money

The ‘now let’s talk money’ campaign offers a free phone service, provided by the Government, to help people on low incomes. When you call, you’ll learn where to go for affordable credit, information about banking, or free face-to-face money and debt advice. The organisations you’re referred to will keep everything you say private, and no one will judge you – they just want to help. The number to ring is 0800 012 1656 and calls are free unless made from a mobile phone.

Rights of Women

Rights of Women is a women’s voluntary organisation committed to informing, educating and empowering women concerning their legal rights.

Rights of Women operates a free Legal Advice Line for women by women: 020 7251 6577 (telephone) or 020 7490 2562 (textphone). Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday 2–4pm and 7–9pm. Also open Friday, 12–2pm.

Gingerbread (The Organisation for Lone Parents)

Gingerbread is an organisation for Lone Parent Families. It was the largest membership organisation providing help for 1.8 million lone parents and their children throughout England and Wales. In May 2007 it merged with The National Council for One Parent Families.
